SEC at Camp Kef
In the summer of 2022, the Social Enrichment Center and Camp Kef at the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center partnered to create an inclusive summer camp program for neurodivergent children ages 4-16. The goal of this program is to help foster an inclusive environment where neurodiverse campers can enjoy the full benefits of everything Camp Kef has to offer. This program is tailored to support and facilitate social development, peer interaction, and independence through traditional camp activities.
Through our partnership, there are two levels of inclusion available with the option of additional support hours. Campers will go through an intake process with SEC to help determine which program is best suited to their needs. Programming is subject to our admission process. Prospective campers are required to complete an informal intake evaluation with the Social Enrichment Center. Intake evaluations are designed to assess your child’s strengths and areas of need to appropriately identify the level of support they will need this summer.
Note: Families may consider SEC at Camp Kef an option for Extended School Year (ESY). Qualification for ESY is determined by the child’s IEP team. If your child should qualify and has social development goals, our program may be a good placement option for ESY.
Full-Time Support Program
Campers in this group are placed in a bunk led by a Therapeutic Facilitator from SEC providing full-time social, emotional and regulation support. The campers are assigned a SEC support staff member, trained by licensed SEC mental health counselors.
Campers in this group receive social skills, behavior management, and emotional regulation group therapy throughout their day. Campers have access to a fully equipped sensory room and to support sensory regulation needs.
These SEC-led bunks are paired with other Camp Kef-led bunks of the same age for inclusion opportunities throughout the camp day.
Itinerant Support Program
Campers in this group are placed in an age-appropriate bunk at Camp Kef and are assigned a 1:1 or 2:1 camp counselor trained by SEC Mental health counselors and supervised by the Special Needs Coordinator of Camp Kef. This counselor will spend the camp day with the camper and assist the camper intermittently with social, emotional and behavioral challenges throughout their camp day. Campers in itinerant programming travel with the Camp Kef bunk and are encouraged to participate in all camp activities.
Note: Campers at the itinerant support level have the option of adding additional SEC service hours (i.e. therapeutic instruction, behavior management support, emotional and regulation support) into their schedule at an additional cost.
Social Skills Groups
Through JCC's partnership with the Social Enrichment Center, families can also add social skills sessions to their child's camp schedule. These sessions provide campers with structured social engagement, the opportunity to build meaningful connections with peers, identify adaptive coping mechanisms, strengthen conversation skills, and boost self-confidence. SEC's social and emotional support sessions, led by a therapeutic facilitator, are available hourly and are presented through fun games, activities, and crafts on campus. This option is available for those in itinerant or traditional camp programming.

SEC is on campus with the JCC Monday - Friday from 9:00am-3:30 pm. Half-day or full-day programming options are available.
