Ciana Swain, B.A.
Graduate Intern
Ciana graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her time in undergrad, she was actively involved with the university’s student counseling department serving as a peer counselor for the campus. As a peer counselor, Ciana facilitated various psychoeducation workshops and provided one-on-one support for other students on campus. Ciana completed an internship at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE. She volunteered within the DEI department doing research on healthcare disparities and vaccine hesitancy among underserved populations. Along with her research, Ciana was able to provide the local community with resources about the COVID-19 vaccine and provide the DEI executive team opportunities to increase health literacy within the hospital and surrounding community. Ciana was also an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Delaware. She conducted a research project about the impact of adverse childhood experiences to children’s cortisol and stress levels. Ciana provided new insight and ideas about diversity and social determinants of health to the research team.
Ciana will earn her master’s degree in May of 2025. After graduation, she aims to pursue her LPC. Ciana is passionate about serving underserved and marginalized communities. Ciana’s life experiences and knowledge from her graduate program allows her to approach all clients with holism. She recognizes the importance of intersectionality, culture and societal influences to an individual’s well-being. With this perspective, Ciana will approach her clients with ideals of empowerment, resilience, empathy, and acceptance. In her free time, Ciana enjoys listening to music, reading, and visiting new restaurants
